An Unencapsulated mica paper capacitor is a processed mica winding or windings without any packaging. Unencapsulated windings are generally used in assemblies where they will be vacuum encapsulated or potted in a material that will provide the necessary environmental protection. It is also important that all air voids are removed from the package, especially in high altitude applications. Air voids around electrical connections can allow corona to develop and lead to the premature degradation of the packaging. Various terminations are available including lead wire, tinned tabs and solder pad.
